2Six3 Foundation Mathematics
Years 10 and 11 · Northern Ireland
A flexible tutoring curriculum for the move from Key Stage 3 into Key Stage 4. Choose a year below, open each half term, and use the assessment results to set a learner’s next steps.
Year 10
Secure number, algebra, geometry, data and financial capability. Explain methods and connect ideas.
Year 11
Apply foundations in longer GCSE-style contexts. Practise calculator decisions, working, command words and checking.
Year 10 · Key Stage 3 foundations
Autumn 1 · Weeks 1–6 · Number fluency
Place value, four operations, order of operations, directed numbers, factors, multiples, primes, rounding and estimation.
Money and changeEntry diagnosticOutcome: choose a sensible calculation and check its size.
Autumn 2 · Weeks 7–12 · Fractions, decimals and percentages
Equivalent forms, simplifying fractions, fraction operations, percentage of an amount and simple increase or decrease.
Price comparisonMixed number checkOutcome: connect fraction, decimal and percentage representations.
Spring 1 · Weeks 13–18 · Ratio and proportion
Sharing in a ratio, scale, unitary method, rates, speed and conversions.
Recipes and mapsOutcome: explain why a ratio or unit method fits the problem.
Spring 2 · Weeks 19–24 · Algebra and graphs
Expressions, like terms, substitution, brackets, simple equations, sequences, coordinates and tables of values.
Function rulesAlgebra checkOutcome: move between words, rules, tables and graphs.
Summer 1 · Weeks 25–30 · Shape and measures
Angles, 2D and 3D shapes, perimeter, area, volume, metric measures and transformations.
Room planOutcome: use a clear diagram, correct formula and units.
Summer 2 · Weeks 31–36 · Data and transition
Data collection, averages, charts, probability, financial decisions and mixed problems.
Transition assessmentOutcome: identify three strengths and three targets for Year 11.
Year 11 · Foundation GCSE preparation
Autumn 1 · Weeks 1–6 · Number and proportional reasoning
Revisit calculations, fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio. Use estimation and both calculator and non-calculator methods.
Readiness retestOutcome: tackle a mixed problem without a topic prompt.
Autumn 2 · Weeks 7–12 · Finance and algebra
Financial maths, rates, compound measures, linear equations, brackets, factorising, formulae and function machines at the learner’s route level.
Bills and travelOutcome: write and interpret a model from a worded situation.
Spring 1 · Weeks 13–18 · Graphs and patterns
Coordinates, linear and real-life graphs; sequences and inequalities where appropriate to the confirmed route.
Midyear diagnosticOutcome: interpret a graph and justify a conclusion.
Spring 2 · Weeks 19–24 · Geometry and measures
Area, perimeter, volume, Pythagoras, angles, bearings, transformations and construction at suitable Foundation depth.
Geometry checkOutcome: use diagrams and units consistently.
Summer 1 · Weeks 25–30 · Data and probability
Averages, spread, statistical diagrams, scatter graphs, Venn diagrams and probability.
Interpret and critiqueOutcome: distinguish an observation from an unsupported conclusion.
Summer 2 · Weeks 31–36 · Interleaving and exam technique
Mixed problem solving, command words, layout, method marks, checking, timing and practice for the school’s confirmed CCEA units.
Mock and error analysisOutcome: set focused Year 12 priorities.

How 2Six3 lessons work
Model one example, solve one together, then ask the learner to solve and explain an independent problem. Revisit older topics each week. Every two weeks, use a short cumulative quiz and one reasoning question; at each half term, review a mixed task and adjust the plan.
Route note: CCEA Foundation offers M1/M5 and M2/M6 pathways. St Killian’s public maths page does not state which units this learner will take. Confirm the school’s route before setting unit-specific papers.
